It's very Instalove and short reads, so if that's not your cup of tea, than  these definitely aren't for you.

EXCERPT

I opened my office door with my head down, still reading through my next patient’s chart.  “Ethan?” My head flew up at the sound of the familiar voice and my eyes locked with gorgeous brown ones that I’d seen filled with hunger and fire the night before. Madison stared at me, open-mouthed, and her cheeks flushed.    My first reaction was pleasure at seeing her again, but then I remembered why I’d been acting like an asshole all day. Irritation quickly spread through my body. Then…I remembered what I do for a living and why Madison would be waiting for me in my office. Oh, fuck no.  Over my dead fucking body. My hands clenched, crumpling the sides of the folder I was holding. The sound broke through Madison’s frozen shock and drew her attention. When she raised her head to look at my face again, I narrowed my eyes and her blush deepened.  I knew the situation needed to be handled carefully, so I swallowed my rage at the thought of Madison carrying another man’s baby and strolled around my desk. I took a seat and placed her file open in front of me.  Raising a single brow, I trained my penetrating gaze on her face and calmly asked, “How can I help you, Ms. Carlyle?” Confusion floated across her face and she fiddled with a lock of her midnight hair as her head canted to the side, making the tiny stud in her nose twinkle. “Um…I want to get pregnant,” she mumbled quietly.  I leaned back in my chair and crossed my arms. “You want me to get you pregnant,” I deadpanned.  Madison looked momentarily stunned and stared at me with her mouth slightly open. Then she shook her head and annoyance flickered in her expression before she cleared it. “I suppose that’s one way to look at it.” I grinned and shuffled through the papers in front of me until I found the one I wanted. “Let’s see. Gynecological history.” I glanced up at Madison who was shifting uncomfortably in her chair. I read on. “No history of STD. Well, that’s a relief.” I looked up and winked. “I’ve got a clean bill of health too, in case you were wondering.” Her cheeks pinkened but she didn’t say anything. I scanned down until I found the section I was looking for. “Ah, sexual history. Hmmm, this section is mostly blank.” I gave her an admonishing shake of my head. “Why don’t we go over that part now?” Madison’s face was now beet red and she was twisting her hands nervously in her lap. I wasn’t in the least bit repentant that I was making her squirm. We both knew what was coming.  “Use of lubricants”—I smirked at her and winked again. Then bent over the form and scribbled as I spoke—“I’ll just put ‘unnecessary’.”  Madison rolled her eyes. “Is your sex drive normal or depressed?” I tapped my chin with my index finger as I pretended to ponder the question. “The answer can change depending on the partner,” I explained. “So, I’ll just write down, extremely eager, according to her most recent lover.” Madison scoffed, and I pinned her with a hard look, daring her to disagree. We both knew she’d wanted it as much as I had. After a moment, she sighed and gave me a tiny nod.  “History of sexual partners.” I cocked my head to the side and studied her as I asked, “How many notches are on your bed post, Ms. Carlyle?” I frowned, unsure if I really wanted to know the answer. The urge to hunt down every last one was strong. I wanted to beat them until they couldn’t remember what she looked like, or even her name. She returned my intense stare. “How many are on yours?” she retorted.  “I’m not the one we’re discussing, Madison.” I tapped the paper in front of me. “Every patient has to complete the questionnaire.” She pinched her lips and scrunched her nose as she thought, considering whether to answer. “Three,” she clipped in a business-like tone. “And before you ask, that’s including my most recent hook-up.”

Review

3.5/5 stars

After a terrible tragic accident Victoria Larkin moves on with her life.
Its ten years later and Victoria still hasn’t moved on from her past. After an incident involving one of her clients, her boss decides to make her go to group counselling.
There she meets Chase. Chase is a College Psychology Professor and also the one in charge of counselling. And he has also has some demons from his past. Things that haunt him to this day that he wishes he could overcome.
Chase and Victoria fall for each other and eventually start a relationship. Things from Chase’s past and Victoria’s intertwine and at the end of the day does Victoria forgive Chase or does she blame him for everything that’s happened.

Honestly, I liked Victoria’s character at the beginning. I liked her attitude and feistiness towards Chase in the beginning. But later in the book she acts kind of different. A few times throughout the book I didn’t like how she acted. And the same goes for Chase too.

Overall, I liked this book. I liked it a little more than their last book they co-wrote together. Other than a few times the characters got on my nerves, it was good. And I wonder what happened to the case Victoria was working on. What happen with the guy? Did he get the kid?
I didn’t love this book nor did I hate it. It was in the middle. I liked it.

Excerpt

Clack. Clack. Clack.

The angry clicks of high heels on linoleum thunders through the buzz of voices in the room, alerting me of our newest arrival before she even emerges from the hallway. I check off her name on my list and fold the paper, tucking it into the back pocket of my jeans. Lifting my eyes to the doorway, I await the notorious Victoria Larkin.

I’m not sure what I’m expecting.

Maybe a monster with bright red claws.

Perhaps a manlike woman with bulging muscles and a bowl cut.

What I don’t expect is a gorgeous, angry angel.

A blonde, blue-eyed woman, despite it being a casual, Saturday afternoon, fills the doorway with her fierce presence and perfectly styled hair. Whereas everyone else, including me, is wearing jeans and T-shirts, she’s overdressed and out of place in her white silky, long-sleeved shirt that’s tucked into her crisp, black pants. Her lips are blood red, as if she snacked on the ducks that live on the pond behind the community center before arriving and match her glossy, spiked heels.

Her nostrils flare in resentment as she surveys the room. Disdain paints her features as she makes quick work of eyeing up everyone in the room, clearly judging them before she meets them. I’m sure Bill seems like a dirty old man flirting with sweet Glenda. And Nate, probably appears to be some goofy goon as he guffaws at a joke Claudia tells him.

The way she lifts her nose in the air in a haughty manner has me bristling with irritation. What she doesn’t see is Bill, the man that used to cry at every session over the loss of his wife of twenty-three years, is finally beginning to smile and test the dating waters after three years since her death.

What she doesn’t see is Nate, a single father of three, who despite his laughter, aches for the loss of his wife Cindy in Afghanistan. He struggles each day to be mom and dad to his little girls.

What she doesn’t see is me, a psychology professor that teaches about the five stages of grief, but most days, I'm fighting depression and the self-loathing that threatens to swallow me up.

She may be sexy as hell—rockin’ the whole naughty librarian look—but her insolence grates on my nerves. Her holier-than-though attitude leaves a sour taste in my mouth and a desire to defend every single one of my friends to her.

When her sapphire eyes meet mine, relief washes over her features and I sit up to face the woman head on. She ignores the diarrhea promised cookies Glenda offers and stalks over to me. With each step, I admire the way her full tits bounce with the fabric. She may be a bitch, but she’s a hot one.

Instead of introducing herself, she sits on the chair beside me and clasps her hands in her lap, lifting her chin high in the air. I watch with interest as she then glances at the time on her expensive watch and huffs.

“Jesus, I swear. People have no respect for other’s time. Time is money,” she gripes. “When a meeting begins at three, I expect it to begin at three. Not three-oh-five.”

I raise a dark brow at her and steal a glance at the clock on the wall that reads one minute till three.

“Bastards,” I agree, with a chuckle. “Some of us have shit to do.”
